I used a rental car. The hotel said it was run by the hotel, but unlike the man at the hotel front desk, the two female staff members were amiable and didn't greet or reply at all, giving the impression that they worked reluctantly. There is no one at the counter all the time, it is behind partitions. It may be that the job is to get no customers except for reservations, but I felt that we should respond properly like the front desk. I also couldn't use my credit card to pay for the rental car. I can't believe the hotel is running it. I think international travelers will also have trouble. Shodoshima may have few places to work and no opportunity to receive training in the hospitality industry, but from a traveler’s perspective, I would have liked to have offered a little more hospitality as I would be the first and last person to meet on Shodoshima. I don't want to come to Shodoshima again, but I hope it will improve.

...and an onsen on 2nd floor. What could be better after a day of e-biking around the island? It's a little dated decor-wise, but the rooms are generouly propotioned and of course spotlessly clean. And it has an onsen! Bliss! It's right next to the Tonako ferry wharf, which makes for a quick getaway back to Takamatsu, or a short ride to visit the art on Toshima Island. The hotel hires e-bikes at a reasonable rate, which makes getting around Shadoshima much more convenient than bussing it, although having a car would be best (depending on your fitness and budget). The hotel staff have no English, but hey, that's what Google translate is for. The only downside is that there are few eating options close by that I could find. There is a 7/11, which has lots of pre-prepared food, an onykamaki place that closes at 7pm, and Sakura restaurant run by a little old lady. Other than that, super.

Hotel is very near to Tonosho port. Room is clean and comfortable. Port-view room is great to see activities in the port along with view of the sea. There also has Onsen in the hotel. Staffs can speak English(but not fluently) and very helpful. There is 7-eleven very near the hotel if you want anything.
