Shodoshima Grand Hotel Suimei

Pros: - dinner was super delicious (esp olive somen, sashimi and the meat) - the service at dinner was great. Lovely lady with a great sense of humour serving us! - good location- 5 mins walk to angel road - great community environment- they held a mochi tsuki taikai last night which was great fun and the tsuki tate omochi delicious! Areas for improvement: - it is like stepping into a time machine back to the 70s and the hotel badly needs some renovation and TLC Overall, not a bad stay- price reflects what if offers!

This hotel really needs renovation. It has not been touched since the opening many years ago. Breakfast not eatable, except miso soup. Service as good as everywhere in Japan and this is the only reason for 2 and not 1 star. Not worth its price and shall be qualified as hostel. This is definitely not a Grand hotel. Owner shall invest some money into renovation and reopen it as a hotel. By that time it is a poor quality hostel. Close to Angel Road. We had a room with Angel Road view; however, this did not compensate the overall experience.
