I speak Japanese and calmly explained to the staff how unreasonable and humiliating this situation was, but I was repeatedly told there was nothing they could do. I have travelled across Japan extensively and never experienced anything this extreme. It was dehumanizing. At one point, I even heard the shutter sound of a phone camera behind me. If you have tattoos, don't even bother - it's not worth it.

This is the lower part of the capsule which costs 4000 yen per night. As for the accommodation area, it is no different from a normal capsule hotel. However, this one was good because it had a sauna and hot springs where you could make lowly.

I've stayed in a couple of hostels with capsule accommodation but this is the real deal. It's an authentic Japanese experience. Golden Time is for men only but does not seem to have any unsavoury overtones. The capsules are a 1970s vision of the future. The traditional bath on the top floor has rusty chalybeate water, as well as a sauna. Breakfast is continental.
