Hotel Okura Kyoto

I stayed there when my mother and daughter went on a trip and visited my grandfather's grave. Whenever my parents stay in Kyoto, it's Okura, so stay here. But prices are going up year after year. The service is meticulous and very good. When I asked the person who was at the car stop about the kimono shop I wanted to go to, he showed me how to get there. There were also three kinds of bath salts with Japanese scent in the bathroom, which the children loved. Breakfast was delicious, but I felt like there was a little less variety. In addition, when I made a reservation and my non-member mother made an inquiry, there was a clear difference in the handling of the accommodation reservation operator, which was unfortunate. A service that allows you to drop off your luggage at Kyoto Station after checking out is really convenient.

Sarah of Concierge was especially helpful to me. I needed to see a doctor for my allergies and her compassionate, personable, thorough assistance was very comforting to me. And when I saw her later on during the day, she remembered and asked me how everything went. That's #1 great experience. The next one was the very convenient luggage transportation service in the Lobby that we availed of to send our large suitcases onto Tokyo since we were going on the Bullet Train that would have been very difficult for us to be lugging our suitcases. I believe her name was Satoya (I am not sure.) But she took care of alllll our suitcases and was so patient when we all brought down our suitcases at different times. She was the one on hand the morning of July 1 and she tried to get all our luggage booked and documented before she finished her shift @11a.m. that day without any of us having to give her all the info since she already had the details from the first of us. Superb service. That's #2 great experience in Hotel Okura Kyoto. The rooms were very comfortable, comforters adding a luxurious feel. The room amenities satisfyingly complete, which even included a skincare set, and the loungewear such a comfy treat. I love the Japanese electronic bidets!!!! The best in all the world!!! This is also where I got introduced to the Japanese medicated toothpaste and I brought it around when I went shopping. The breakfast buffet on the top floor offered a variety of choices to satisfy discriminating tastes. The breakfast room on the 17th floor (Horizonte Lounge) offered a lovely view of the river and the mountains, which started each day right! I liked the feel of the expansive lobby with its pillars, marble floors and grand staircase. We also enjoyed the Bar Chippendale with its classic British decor on the second floor off the grand staircase. Loved our stay in Hotel Okura Kyoto.

I much enjoyed another stay at the elegant, classy Hotel Okura Kyoto, five nights in late May. The superior twin room was comfortable, spacious, well-lit and with plenty of storage space. I had a great view of the river, city, landmarks and mountains. The origami cranes which welcome guests are such a nice touch. The staff are always ready to help, polite, pleasant and efficient. I was very happy to be told I could check in earlier than expected, which doesn't happen often in Japan. Housekeeping is excellent too with everything necessary being replenished, but no wasteful removals (e.g. of the complimentary slippers, which at some hotels disappear the next day), and things I moved because they were in the way, like the folder on the bedside table, not moved back. The hotel is in the most convenient location, close to the river and within walking distance of many sights, shops and eateries, and with a subway station accessible from the basement. As usual, the Japanese breakfasts at Irifune, the room service meals, and the treats from the cake shop were delicious. Looking forward already to my next stay!
