Lovely authentic Ryokan and the couple that worked there couldn't do enough for you, they even offered us a free calligraphy lesson. The rooms were lovely and the Onsen perfect. Location great so we could walk to all the sites. Would highly recommend.

Very kind owner & wife/staff. This was the most reasonably priced & most enjoyable of our stays in Japan. We had previously been having separate gender onsen experiences but we were offered the chance for a private reservation bath together at no extra cost - lovely. In addition to traditional futon, tatami floor, & house kimono style dressing gown we were offered a free shirt calligraphy lesson after breakfast by a lovely lady. We are vegetarian & Japanese breakfast was delicious & nutritious & beautifully presented. Beethoven Jazz fusion music was gently playing in the background. Location was good - close to Kyoto Station & towards Gion area. When leaving, we were offered the opportunity of a photo wearing Japanese clothing & using Japanese props like a fan, parasol & kimono & the owner also posed with us / lovely! My sister and I spent one night at Ryokan Shimizu and we had the most wonderful experience! We wish we could have stayed longer! Everything is very well taken care of, the decoration is beautiful, the room is perfectly done. We took the bath, and pictures with the kimonos, it was great! Besides, everyone is very welcoming, kind and always smiley and ready to help. Arigatou!!
