Hotel Marroad Karuizawa

So far, I have stayed for about 10 nights with my family of five during the New Year holidays. Breakfast was always buffet style for the New Year holidays. Breakfast is free for co-sleeping infants in buffet style. This year, on the last Saturday of the year-end, I made a reservation after checking the phone because there was no room on the internet. It is the end of the year, so it is crowded = naturally I recognized breakfast as a buffet that can be eaten early in the morning. "When I checked in, they suddenly said, ""A choice of Japanese or Western food tomorrow instead of buffet."" No meals for the co-sleeping toddler, and separate payment of 1,540 yen if necessary." When I asked him why he didn't give me that information when I made a phone reservation, he said, "Excuse me. It is a selection tomorrow, so please choose it by 21:00 anyway," so I had no choice but to choose Japanese and Western food for two adults and an elementary school student. Breakfast on the day starts at a whopping 7:30. There is no point staying so late when you are staying by the ski resort. When we were finally let through to the restaurant, they told us that they only had one drink per person, which was free to refill any number of buffet-style drinks. When we talk about drinks, we mean apple juice, orange juice, milk and tomato juice, not expensive drinks. For Western food, the items on the table are "food bread" and "Shinshu mushrooms and purple cabbage? As he was waiting, thinking it was natural to come, he saw a croissant of bread, and no purple cabbage came yesterday. When I asked him, he said, "Bread is out of stock and has been changed. We also don't have mushrooms and purple cabbage in stock, so we don't have any alternatives available," he said. I was too dumb to say that I would change or even eliminate anything written in the book, that there would be no explanation until asked, and of course no refund. Also, while Western food was served in salads, soups, and other wasteful ways (I can't wait to go skiing here), Japanese food (for some reason, I didn't know what was coming because there were no items) was served in trays at once, and as with Western food, I thought something was coming later, but nothing came, not even dessert, and I had eaten all the side dishes even when people said, "I can get another round of rice," and I didn't provide any rice to accompany them. Anyway, it was all poorly explained, the arrangements were bad, and I felt very bad even though I was paying a premium price for my stay at the end of the year. There was no apology from the senior management. I had a lot of good memories here at the hotel, but I'm really sorry it was ruined.

My mum and I really enjoyed our time at Hotel Marroad Karuizawa. The rooms were the most spacious we had ever come across in Japan and we could both open our suitcases comfortably. They were very clean and the beds were comfortable. The service staff were very professional and helpful as well. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet on one of our mornings there. Some of the drawbacks: the hotel is older in terms of style and design, although extremely well-maintained. Our room was on the floor above the lobby and there was no elevator, and there was no elevator or ramp from the hotel driveway to the lobby upstairs. The concierge was very kind to help us with our luggage, however. Overall, strongly recommended!

Location of the hotel is fine, but the whole place is a bit aged. The lobby area is huge with a bar (only open until 10:30 PM) and restaurant attached. Rooms are also large but are in desperate need of some upgrading. The hotel has many stairs and no elevator and is inaccessible for wheelchairs. It's an expensive place but so are all hotels in Karuizawa.
