I used it on my way back from climbing Mt. The room is old but clean.
Dinner is disappointing at the buffet. I know salmon is a specialty, but I wonder how many were there: sashimi, teppanyaki, nigiri sushi, chirashi sushi. There was no good adult food like this. I had fruit and sweets for dinner because I couldn't help it. I don't expect breakfast either.

The "Shinshu Umaimono Buffet" is a misnomer.
The contrast with the photos on the website is stark.
The menu is advertised as using local ingredients, but I felt the menu was meager.
There wasn't even apple juice for breakfast or dinner!
Also, the pork, a specialty of Shinshu, was extremely hard, and the mountain of grilled salted sweetfish on a heating device made me lose interest, so they could have put more thought into the way the food was presented.
The balance between Japanese and Western dishes at breakfast was poor.
The only soup served at breakfast was miso soup, and there was no soup. I was surprised at how hard and dry the bread was.

Stayed for one night, on our way to climb the summit of Mt Norikura. Although a bit dated, the hotel keeps its high service level. All of the staff are extremly helpful, but there is only few that can speak english. Buffet breakfast and dinner are excellent and versatile, good value. If you can not sleep on futons, recommend twin room. Quite spacious for japanese hotel standards with a nice leafy outlook. Surprisingly, no showers in the room, but there is an onsen open 22hrs/day. Enjoyed outdoor spa very much.
