Hotel Taiko

This traditional Japanese onsen hotel is perfectly located an 8 min walk to the closest ski lift & right by the main street. Breakfast had both Japanese & Westrn options. The pancakes were delicious! Mizuki at the front desk of hotel Taiko went above & beyond to ensure that we were happy throughout our stay.  Every interaction with her was warm and welcoming. We were always greeted with a smile. She helped with our check-in, coordinated our transfer to the train station, helped with dinner reservations, lift ticlets & gave lots of great recommendations.  Her recommendation to enjoy the hotel onsen was greatly appreciated after a long day of travel. We visited the onsen after every day of skiing as well! Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful, but Mizuki stood out in her customer service abilities. She should be the customer service manager. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to return & spend more time at this lovely establishment that is staffed by incredible people.  Thank you very much for all your help, Mizuki & the team at Hotel Taiko D'Artagnan Heath & Ching Lin

I was charged for a stay that I had cancelled through Booking.com. After cancelling a booking in mid October 2024 Hotel Taiko with Booking.com charged for a full stay of 4 nights. I had not heard from the Hotel at all until I was charged. In trying to contact the Hotel all they said was contact Booking.com. Very disappointing in terms of customer service in trying to understand how a booking went wrong in the Booking.com system. Would not try to stay here again as they clearly put getting their money for a stay ahead of looking after customers.

The exterior looks old and dingy, but the interior is well-maintained, and the lobby is spacious and bright, with a panoramic view of Mt. Madarao in front. We stayed in a modern 10-tatami Japanese-style room, but there was a chair by the window that could seat four, so the two of us were perfectly comfortable. The hot spring was spacious and had a great view. Dinner was a delicious kaiseki-style meal. It's completely empty after the May holidays in Myoko Kogen, but if you take a walk around the plateau you can see the snow-capped Mt. Myoko and admire the skunk cabbage. The soba restaurant "Basho" at Ikenohira Imori Pond is delicious, and it's also nice to relax and enjoy a coffee at the adjacent visitor's center.
