Let me start with the positives first. (+) Central location, walking distance to the train market, convenience store just opposite. Its situated right on that same straight road that takes u up to the amusement park and down to the waterfront (-) Such an awful stay. Arrival was so challenging with long queues at the reception, followed by a 10 minute wait to use one of 3-elevators to head up to our room on the 11th floor. Corridor smelt of cardboard. Walls are thin so other guests racing through will wake one up bright and early. The room itself was terrible: (i) dated and moldy bathroom with a dysfunctional toilet seat, not heated (ii) dusty carpets and curtains; we were sneezing throughout (iii) uncomfortable mattresses (iv) exceptionally hot room for end of May! Air conditioning was unreliable and non-existent. I made the mistake of assuming that all Kamenoi hotels are decent. We had just stayed at Kamenoi Aso Resort, which was so so lovely! Kamenoi Beppu was expensive (we paid S$230/night) and uninviting; for Singaporeans, this is the equivalent of a S$50/night JB hotel. Such a regret on my end.

It is the highest-rise hotel in Oita.” It is the Beppu Kamenoi Hotel”.　　Anyway, it was cheap so I booked it for two days. I like the spacious lobby and the large public baths unique to the hot springs. But the public bath was very crowded, don't push. Furthermore, there are fewer elevators compared to the size of the hotel, so the wait is also long.　The rooms are business sized and equipped.　　The location is very convenient near Beppu Station, and parking is free.　　It was a 15th floor with 16 floors, so the view was great. It was breakfast on the first day.　It came with a Western-style buffet. It is unexpectedly gorgeous and there are many kinds. It's breakfast on the second day.　　This is Japanese food. ”It is a bamboo basket meal".　　There are all the breakfast essentials in the basket.　　 The other type is “kaisendon”.　It comes with salad and natto miso soup. With this breakfast, you can stay for around 7,500 per person per night. That's a pretty expensive hotel, isn't it?

Located in downtown Beppu very close to Beppu station, this hotel also caters to the group tourists seen traveling in limousine buses. Have never seen a check-in line sooo long, but with the abundant and efficient reception staff, the wait did not seem too long. Depending on when you go, we found the lines for elevators, restaurants, very long but moving efficiently. Food is decent and for breakfast, we had the choice of eating at the buffet (2nd floor) or the Japanese restaurant on the 1st floor. The Japanese breakfast was kaisen-don (sashimi combination over rice) with salad all you can eat. The building is a bit dated, so be prepared to wait for the elevators. Their public bath--hot spring--is decent, but crowded, and their gift shop is comprehensive. For the price and good access within downtown Beppu, we would stay here again.
