Hotel Monterey Osaka

Great location, 6 minute walk to Umeda Station, which is very central. Pleasant room - though a little noisy - traffic and construction - but lovely, helpful staff and high standards of cleanliness and service. It’s in a high rise with lots of other businesses and I felt it lacked identity, character, individuality, can’t quite put my finger on it! However, I’d definitely stay here again for the location alone!

Absolutely not if you are traveling as a couple. I’m not sure how a place like this stays open. Look closely at the photos. You will notice you only see one side of the bed. That is because the other side is pushed up against a wall. You have to climb over each other to get in and out. They showed us three different rooms—all the same. Also, tacky and dingy. It’s too late for us, but it doesn’t have to be for you.

This was the second hotel we stayed in Osaka during our recent trip. We stayed here for a total of five nights. The hotel is ideally situated, just a 5 to 7-minute walk from the JR Osaka West Gate and Sakurabashi Gate, respectively. Additionally, the Herbis Bus Terminal is also roughly an 8-minute walk away, directly across the street. The hotel featured a European-inspired architectural style and design. It appeared somewhat old-fashioned and is currently undergoing renovations; during our stay, certain areas of the hotel were cordoned off for repairs, cleaning, and painting. The lobby was located on the 8th floor while our accommodation was on the 12th floor. The room was deemed "spacious" by Japanese standards, although it was somewhat outdated in terms of furniture and wall decorations. The beds, however, were comfortable, allowing us to rest well. Unfortunately, the TV channels were quite limited, consisting mainly of local stations with no international options. Housekeeping was performed efficiently and professionally, with used items replaced as needed. Bottles of mineral water and tea sachets were also restocked, but there was no coffee provided. Moreover, there wasn't an ice machine on every floor, which is common in many hotels; we had to request ice from the reception, but the service was swift and the staff were accommodating. We didn’t experience the breakfast at the café located on the 14th floor (as our friends took us out for day trips with breakfast included), but we found out that for walk-in guests, the price was 3,800 yen per adult, which seemed rather expensive. Overall, our stay here was satisfactory despite some minor inconveniences due to the ongoing renovation work.
