Toi Fujiya Hotel

I was looking for an inn two weeks before I went to Toi Onsen, and happened to find rooms available and the rates were low, so I booked two rooms for six people, three smokers and three nonsmokers. I wasn't expecting much, but the staff responded and cleaned the facility, the rooms and the baths, and the food was large, yet delicious, and I was very satisfied with the rice and miso soup refills. The temperature of the hot springs was about 40 degrees, and it warmed up just right. It was also good to know that even though it was this time of year, the guests were all Japanese and they were able to stay calm. After breakfast, we had a nice morning coffee service in the lobby. And staying in a room where you can smoke is great for smokers. I'm not a smoker, but staying in a room where I could smoke was not smoking. Of course, the futons and pillows didn't smell like cigarettes.

Toi is a nice little Onsen town on the west side of Izu. Very refreshing place. The Fujiya hotel is a nice ryokan style hotel. Very beautiful and relaxing. The staff are all very nice. Our room was beautiful. It was a Japanese style with Tatami mats and had a bath on the balcony. This bath, with natural onsen water, was absolutely wonderful. The set-up on the balcony was clean and spacious, one of the best balcony baths I have had in Japan apart from the view. They have a larger public bath on the top floor with indoor and outdoor baths as well as a sauna. This was nice, clean and relaxing. I did certainly prefer our balcony bath and would recommend to get that if available. The beds were futons that are brought out after dinner and put away before breakfast. Dinner and breakfast were in our room. Very nice Japanese spread. They have coffee service in the AM downstairs. I think from 8:00 AM. I wish it were earlier such as 6:00. The hotel has a gameroom in the basement with all kinds of games and pingpong tables. There is a charge for using these games. The location of the hotel is a very short walk to the park and beach, also very close to the Toi Gold Mine (well worth a visit). If you are in Toi this is a very nice choice. I didn't see any other children there except mine, but mine was very welcome and treated so nicely.
