Grand Prince Takanawa

Disappointing experience and not worth the price Unfortunately, our experience at the Grand Prince Hotel Shin Takanawa fell well below expectations, and I would not recommend staying here. The problems began at check-in, which was unnecessarily long and frustrating. We spent around 15 minutes being taken through a loyalty programme sign-up when all we wanted to do after travelling was check into our room. Checkout was equally frustrating and took an unnecessarily long time, so our first and last impressions of the hotel were both poor. Service throughout our stay was disappointing. Lunch service was particularly bad, communication in English was difficult, and there seemed to be a real disconnect between the standard of hotel we thought we had booked and the experience we actually received. One of the biggest surprises was the swimming pool. Hotel guests are charged around $50 per adult to use it. For a hotel of this standard, I found it extraordinary that use of the pool was not included in the room rate. It was far from worth it either - plastic chairs were all there were to sit on without paying! There was also extremely confusing and misleading information about room service. The phone in our room said room service, the television advertised it, the written information in the room referred to it, and the hotel’s own website advertised in-room dining. However, when we tried to order, we were told that room service was not available. It has been closed since Covid - the hotel’s information should be updated accordingly. We raised our concerns with a senior member of staff. To their credit, they offered us a late checkout, which we appreciated, as well as complimentary breakfast. Unfortunately, the breakfast was terrible and did little to improve our overall impression. For the price, there are far better options in Tokyo. I would not stay here again and would not recommend it.

As the domestic travel was in Haneda, I looked for nearby places and stayed at Grand Prince Takanawa. It is very convenient because there is a shuttle from Shinagawa Prince. I used it on days when there was luggage or on rainy days, but it is close to the station on foot via Shintakanawa. Beautiful flowers greeted me from the entrance and I was relaxed. The rooms were old but clean. I was also able to eat breakfast comfortably, and it was a pity that I couldn't eat it one day because of the jet lag. They are happy to change rooms and have stayed at Shintakanawa, but I am not good at liveliness, so I would love to be here again. It is a hotel with too good a cost. I would be even happier if the appliances were made in Japan.

Beautiful gardens as we stayed through blossom season. There are 2 hotels. The new one is the Shin and the older one just the Grand Prince. We stayed as multiple families/friends our sons wedding with people in both hotels. Venues nearby. Overall experience very mixed so mark as average We stayed twice travelling in between but both times in the Shin. 2nd time upgraded to a club room with lounge access which was excellent. Champsgne in the evening and excellent free breakfast. Also suites and club rooms totally refurbished. Other roons are very dated, comfortable beds all round, bathrooms not great. King corner rooms very spascious. Normal breskfast has a queue and was way over priced On arrival we had to load up our own bags (we had 6 between 2 of us due to wedding and long visit), Not an issue but generally concierge were doing bags. Reception were unhelpful in the extreme with every request having no fjexibility Common areas were very modern. Over the the top strict rules in the over priced bar. We used as meeting point for first few nights and were the only ones there, stopped using Gym was an extra charge!! Good on-site buffet restaurant, 7/11 and coffee shop Good location and near one of the biggest metro stations that also has a stop for the bullet train to/from Kyoto Next year when we go will not stay as long in Tokyo and will book more central
