Ginza Capital Hotel Akane

I used it for work. I would have been happy if the amenities were a little more substantial. The tubs are big enough, and the others are better than the typical business hotel. I stayed for a long time, but I didn't have enough supplies. It may be normal these days. It is also close to Tsukiji, so it is convenient when going to the off-the-shelf market.

The staff were very friendly and able to check in quickly even late at night. All rooms are non-smoking, and if you want to smoke, you should use the smoking room on the 2nd floor. The smoking room on the 2nd floor and the 4th floor have self-containers, and the corner of the self-containers on the 4th floor is equipped with ice and electrons. There are convenience shops and My Basket nearby, which makes it convenient to use, and it's really close to the station and it's also good to stroll along the way. Compared to other tourist attractions in Shinjuku, there was less noise to sleep, and the room was soundproof and warm.

Tokyo is the last leg of our December trip to Japan. This hotel is where we stayed longer, and the most expensive being Tokyo. My mistake was that I was unable to read TripAdvisor reviews and booked this hotel in a rush when most of our usual hotels here are all full. Location: There is no JR train nearby, few restaurants nearby, nothing interesting. Atmosphere: Very old and dated hotel Rooms: Are passable because the size is slightly more spacious than our previous ones. But the vibe here will make me go back to the newer and friendlier ones. Amenities: I'd give it a zero. Maybe am spoiled by all the previous Japan hotels I've been to. No amenity except for the bottled shampoo, conditioner, and soap in the bathroom, the free wifi, and ice. - No bottled water. They make you drink from faucet. Other hotels we stayed in also posted about their potable faucet water. But they still gave bottled water. - TV is old, analog, and only shows local channel and without an English mode. Not even and LCD, like really old, and no Netflix nor YouTube so nothing to watch. - No laundry bag. - Their laundry room is outside the building. You go out from a fire exit in front of reception, into a dark alley and when it is raining, you cannot go to a locked outdoor room. Quite eerie. So I did not do my laundry. Being the last leg of my trip, I badly needed to do one. Just had to reuse 😮‍💨 - They made me pay for laundry detergent that is not built into the machine unlike in other hotels where you only need coins. You have to pay at reception. Too bad I backed out of laundry because of the laundry room scenario I described above. - The room key in all the previous hotels were 3 pieces, one for each guest. Here, they gave only 1. Very inconvenient. - Their refrigerator doesn't make food cold. It is room temperature inside. At least there is ice machine. However, it may spoil our take away food 😞 - The air heating is centralized to whole building. Our family is not used to heating, it was suffocating. We wanted the cool aircon. And they have none. So we just had to leave windows open. - This is the only hotel I stayed in, that have only one pillow per guest. So there's 3 pillows in total, for us three. - Check-in/Out: No self check in kiosks. They also have the earliest checkout time in Japan. In many countries it is 12NN. In Japan it is 11AM. But in this hotel, it is 10AM. They even had a reminder posted to be out on time, a 500 yen fee applies to every 30 minutes extension. - They have a free wifi. But in their website they said they cannot guarantee stable signal. Something unlikely in Japan. It feels like they are saving everything to the point of stripping us off basic comfort. We save hard to go on vacation trips, and we hope they could at least be on par with other 3-star hotels in Japan. Some of them even exceeded expectations. It was more expensive than the rest of my stays here, so I thought it will be a good one. But then again, I better read reviews next time.
