Business Hotel Yamayuri

I stayed at Hotel Yamayuri because of it's proximity to the Ueno and Okachimachi stations. Check in wasn't bad at all. Older woman checked me in and gave me key. I then learned that they lock the doors at midnight. If you aren't back by then, you aren't going to get in to your room. I don't usually stay out late but I'd like that flexibility. Should be noted when reservations are made. Room was very small and in disrepair. I was in 201 at end of hallway so wifi was very weak. It was cheap and I guess you get what you pay for but Ueno Terminal Hotel was far better for a similar price. I wouldn't stay here again.

Hotel nice and close to Ueno Station and easy to find. Small rooms have all you need with ensuite, tv, air con. Some rooms don’t have a view at all. If you plan to travel solo and spend most time outside this is the place for you. Staff were friendly and we did our best to understand each other!

We stayed at this hotel in April the night before we ended the trip. We loved the familiar vibe the place has. The crew, all older adults were extremely nice and helpful. As soon they found out what our native country was, the man at the front desk spoke some words in our language. After the check out, they kept our luggage for some hours before us heading to the airport. The place is a very discrete building with a bunch of interesting and helpful places around, like markets, restaurants (both fancy and more humble), train stations and is very close to Ueno Park, the perfect spot to admire the Sakuras and enjoy the Hanami. The rooms are modest, with everything we needed (amenities and that electric tea pot all the hotels in Japan have). The beds were comfy and the room was a little bit bigger than the regular business hotels of chains, but not the bathroom (no bathroom seems to have enough place in Japan for tall tourist people).
