YMCA Asia Youth Center

On a recent budget trip to Tokyo, I decided to book a single room in YMCA Asia Youth Centre for its proximity to the place I needed to frequent. There are some rooms for small groups, but otherwise It seems quite a typical business hotel with really small rooms for single occupancy. The hotel is kind of old but a good deal for various reasons. It is reasonably priced ( with discount for students and teachers), clean and fairly well maintained; breakfast can be purchased at only 200 yen for house guests. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful, the hotel lobby is quite spacious for a budget accommodation. Moreover, the hotel is conveniently located near three train stations ( ochanomizu, suidobashi and jimbocho) and only a station (we could walk) away from the buzzling Akihabara. In anyway it was easy to do shopping at nearby Tokyo Dome area. However, if you are looking to use Airport limo bus, the nearest drop off and pick up is at Tokyo Dome hotel (about 10 minutes walk). You could of course take a train to the airports quite easily. With the luggage, we decided to take a taxi to Haneda which took about 40 mins and cost slightly more than 8000 yen.

YMCA Asia youth centre was a little difficult to find on the map. I had to use two different navi apps to find it. The room was nice for a solo traveler with one carry-on. There was a single bed, kettle and tea, plug-in-go mini fridge, TV and hairdryer. Upon arriving, they had also placed a yukata for me to use. The shower/tub was a little high to step over (please be careful if you're not very tall) and the water for the shower was really difficult to set the right temperature to. In the end, the temperate kept fluctuating so the shower took longer than anticipated. A toothbrush and razor were available to use. The lights in the room weren't very bright... I wouldn't recommend reading with them on. The pillow on the bed needed a little more life in it. It was quite flat and difficult to sleep on. The bed itself was really comfy though. The staff on site were really friendly, a thumbs up!

If I could give this place a lower grade I would. Lets start with the positives. #1. friendly and helpful staff, and that's the only plus side to this place. The negatives, very outdated everything if not outdated then beat up. There was hair all over the carpet like no one had ever vacuumed and Stains all over the walls and carpet. Not just stains but nasty looking ones. The bathroom was no better, there were hairs in the tub and white crusty idkwtf it was on the shower head. I had been backpacking for 33 days and this was by far the nastiest place I've stayed at. ''I rate this location a 0.5 out of 10.''
