Mercure Tottori Daisen Resort & Spa

I would like to thank the amazing hotel team for their branch service. Every day, you will be served with a friendly and high level of professionalism. The only thing about the music selected in the breakfast room is that I don't understand why I have to listen to Western dance music at 7am. We are located in Asia, Japan, and 98% of our customers are Asian. I think this is very disrespectful to our customers who are committed to preserving their traditional Japaneseness and nurturing our history and unique culture. Personally, the silence, especially in the morning, is the best thing, and no one is uncomfortable with the music selection. If you feel that music is indispensable, please support the cultural music industry in Japan and Asia.

Since last year, I have been enjoying holidays at Mercure (formerly Daiwa Royal Hotel). So far, she has stayed in Lake Biwa (Nagahama), Ise-Shima, Kyoto-Miyazu (Amanohashidate), Nara-Kashihara, Awaji-shima, Wakayama-Minabe, Wakayama-Kushimoto, Lake Hamana, Tottori-Daisen, Okinawa Zanba-misaki, and Kochi-Tosa for a total of 33 nights, this time in Mt. From June to August, 23 nights have been booked in Tonami, Nagano Matsuyo, Yatsugatake and Tottori Daisen. I don't really feel the difference between a Grande Mercure and a Mercure. The room was large, so I brought a washstand from home and did the laundry morning and evening. Bring your own pyjamas, as thick yukata has a sash that prevents you from getting a good night's sleep. Tottori Prefecture has a population of 530,000 (Shimane Prefecture has 640,000, Tottori City 180,000, Yonago City 140,000, Kurayoshi City 40,000, Sakaiminato City 30,000), and there are few people, cars, and traffic lights, so you can enjoy a comfortable drive. This time, the group visited the Tottori Prefectural Museum of Art (Kurayoshi) and Shimane Prefectural Museum of Art (Matsue), the ruins of Gassan Toda Castle in Yasugi, Yonago Castle, Matsue Castle, and the Tokorogo Traditional Buildings Preservation District in Oyama Town (just north of the Oyama Interchange, turn right at the intersection in front of 7-Eleven, and there is a walking map for free parking). My best home is a 500-night stay on a Princess Cruises cruise ship in 20 years. This year, they will spend 10 nights in March and 14 in November.

I stayed at Mercure Tottori Daisen Resort for 4 nights with friends in 2 rooms. One of them, a Bonvoy Platinum member, mentioned he receives better treatment and benefits than Accor Diamond members. We made separate daily bookings via the Accor app (to access the dinner buffet every other day), but at check-in, only 1 reservation was confirmed. It took 30 minutes to sort this out. The Japanese front desk staff couldn’t speak English, so we had to use a translator—making communication frustrating. We didn’t receive proper guidance about hotel usage. The dinner buffet was crowded with package guests, requiring a waiting number. At the first buffet, I discovered our room assignments were switched. I explained that my friend’s room had already paid the buffet fee and asked for correction. At the second buffet, my friends went ahead to dine, but a staff asked for my Accor Plus number and didn’t give them a waiting ticket. They were made to wait until I arrived 20 minutes later. After explaining the situation and requesting a table, the staff member gave me a new ticket without apology and glared at me. Later, the restaurant manager arranged our seating. However, when my wife arrived later, she wasn’t allowed in and was also made to wait. I had to call the manager again to fix it. The lounge, open to all guests, was understaffed on weekdays, overcrowded, and poorly maintained—snacks and drinks were messy and unhygienic. The rooms were old and had a bad odor—clearly in need of renovation. Overall, the service was worse than an Ibis hotel, and the system felt like a local inn. Management needs training. That said, I appreciate the kindness of the male front desk staff who assisted during checkout.
