Although the building is a bit older, the location and value made this a fantastic stay. We visited in April 2025 (this is a much delayed review but I can't stop thinking about this trip). We chose this hotel because we were going on the firefly squid boat tour and this was the only hotel within walking distance of the dock. The proximity to the dock and the Hotaruika Museum were a huge plus for us but it is also conveniently located right next to the train station. We were able to do a lot of exploring around the area on the trains. During our stay, both the front desk and the hotel restaurant were primarily being taken care of by the same older man and woman. I should have gotten their names but I didn't. They were so sweet and patient with us as we struggled through our limited Japanese and use of Google translate. They were always very friendly every time we left and came back. It felt like coming back home each time. The set breakfast offered at the restaurant was simple but delicious. They had a wonderful espresso machine for unlimited coffee. Each morning, certain parts of the breakfast would change so there was some variety to it. It was a great introduction to a traditional meal for us as first-time visitors to Japan. If you get a room facing the mountains, it's a gorgeous view! My only true complaint was that the bed was very hard. But we managed! If you do try and book this hotel around firefly tour season, make sure to do it as soon as reservations opened. I waited a couple days too long and all the rooms were booked except the smallest one.

The bed was hard as a rock! Everything else was fine. Nice view of the mountains in the rooms facing the tracks. It is an excellent location if you plan to visit the firefly squid museum. This town shut down completely during the vacation. We had pizza that night instead of our hoped for seafood meal in a town next to Toyama Bay known for having 80% of the fish species of Japan.

I used this hotel just to go for the Firefly Squid spotting tour. The location is a 7 minute walk from the hotel to the port. The hotel is extremely basic but clean with amenities like electric kettle, heater and pyjamas. The staff is good. Found the price of the hotel to be a bit steep especially for the level of basic amenities provided. Food options around the hotel are pretty good. The town is a sleepy town so you can walk around or bicycle at your own slow pace.
