It was my first trip to Wakayama Prefecture. It's my first night at Yanagiya, too. At first, we were greeted by a staff member, who left the car and checked in. The staff took your luggage to your room. I went to a hot spring. There were indoor and outdoor baths. I was surprised to find a lotion and emulsion of snowy skin. This is the first time I've been to an inn with this product. Dinner is a Japanese kaiseki course. I was very satisfied with the 15 dishes. They were all delicious, but the sashimi was fresh, and some of them were sashimied with a whole flounder, which was very delicious. The staff was also good with kind and attentive service. Breakfast is also a Japanese meal, and there are many items, I am very satisfied. It was an inn I would like to repeat if I had the chance again.

We stayed at room 1201, the biggest one on the floor with western and tatami beds. Room is very spacious with an impressive sea view and the beautiful beach. Obviously, it is a hotel of certain age, yet very popular among the Japanese. Staff speak English which has added value for foreigners. The location is just top. 2 minutes to the beach, 3 minutes to the famous outdoor onsen, 5 minutes to the famous fish restaurant 九繒亭, 10 minutes to the street of restaurant Ginza and 15 minutes to the famous cliffs and boulder. Onsen in the hotel is good. We have tried the family onsen the first evening. Well, we prefer the big shared onsen. Well, we are very happy with our choice and we would highly recommend it to our friends.

On our 10 day trip touring onsens, we started here at Yanagiya. It's a large hotel, not what you would consider cozy. However, the kaiseki was tremendous. We went in the off-season (April). I bet summers are horrifically crowded? Nearby is a renowned onsen that sits at the ocean's edge. One day it was close due to unruly waves, but the next day the upper pool was open and it was a super experience.
