Royal Hotel Kawaguchiko

I really enjoyed my stay here, particularly the dinner and the onsen. The location could have been a bit better as was a little bit of a walk to the restaurants etc. The rooms were clean. I can't really comment on the value as it was part of a pre-booked tour!

Went for the onsen. It was 1000 yen for two hours which was very inexpensive. The failicties were basic but felt clean. The onsen was lovely, one indoor and one outside one which were both very hot and relaxing. Bear in mind that you are expected to enjoy onsen naked and men and women are separated.

The only reason I did not give 0 points is that I could not enter a 0. This was by far the worst hotel I‘ve been in since I started using Tripadvisor. Having chosen to sleep japanese style, we were met with one horror after another. -the entrance to the hotel from the parking lot side was stony and over crumbling pavement. The lobby consisted of a few wire chairs and some refrigerators for beverages. -the stairwell had crumbling paint and cracks in the walls. -it looks as if generations of guests have banged their luggage against walls and corridors. -The entrance to the room was dirty with strips of old carpet covering cold concrete flooring. -The room consisted of two futon mattresses on a tatami floor. I dont know why we had to remove our shoes before entering the room, it felt like it was dirtier inside than our shoes. -the bathroom was miles below any washrooms that we have met in Japan. Period. -The food served for the Keiseki dinner was in large parts inedible. Breakfast was the same. Not recommended.
