We stayed 4 nights at Ramayana / Luang Prabang Residence (people in town know it by the first name). The architecture, breakfast area, garden, comfort and cleanliness of the rooms, and overall location were excellent. We would have really enjoyed this experience were it not for the horrendous lack of basic customer service, primarily from reception.
I could go on and on ranting my complaints but in summary, there’s absolutely no initiative from the staff to provide the bare minimum level of customer service one would expect from even the most basic accommodation - not a single greeting, no information, no attempt to remedy issues that arise. Nothing. No managerial presence during our entire stay. Mysterious additional charges showed up on our bill that were eventually removed after we pointed them out.
Things got so bad that we had to seek out another nearby hotel owner for help with all the needs/requests our reception failed to provide: access laundry services, booking airport transfers and, you know, a friendly smile.
My advice: Take your business somewhere else. The manager at Golden Lotus across the street was a MILLION times better and graciously helped us with all our needs. Our only regret was not staying there instead!

We loved the wooden furniture and decoration in this hotel. The location of this hotel is very convenient. We felt very comfortable to stay in this hotel, the bed was very comfy, the room was clean and tidy. We will recommend to all of my friends Ramayana Boutique Hotel.

Bill Nguyen, the manager of the Golden Lotus Place in Luang Prabang, Laos was our hero. We arrived in Luang Prabang with a reservation at the Ramayana Boutique Hotel, after a 2-day boat ride down the Mekong. We arrived to a shell of a building. No hotel, no staff, completely under construction. We booked it through Orbitz and received no notice that it was closed. We made our way to the Golden Lotus Place. Bill met us with a smile and a cold drink. Golden Lotus Place did not have any vacancies, so he took us to a sister hotel, Mekong Moon Inn. He grabbed our bags and walked us a few blocks down the street and got us a room for 3 nights. We promised to stay at Golden Lotus for our last 4 nights. Bill picked up our bags from the other hotel and brought them to Golden Lotus on day four. He put us in a king bedroom, and included breakfast each morning. He also arranged for our transfer to the airport. We were overwhelmed with his kindness and hospitality. The hotel is a classic inn. The room and bathroom were clean and spacious. It is located less than a block from the night markets, royal palace and Mt Phousi. Thanks to Bill, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend the Golden Lotus Place. Luang Prabang has a way of stealing your heart. Make sure to confirm your booking directly with the hotels, even though the booking sites say it is not necessary.
