Vansana Nam Ngum Resort

We stayed a night here after a long day's cycling. The pool was perfect for tired muscles, and the cold beers were pretty good too. There's nothing much nearby, so we ate dinner at the hotel. It was perfectly pleasant, although they did want us to eat a little earlier than we would probably have chosen! The location looking out over the river is stunning - and was probably one of the most impressive breakfast locations we had in the country. Although the breakfast itself wasn't overly memorable. As other review have said, the property is a little dated, but perfectly adequate, and the beds were comfortable. Lying in the swimming pool surrounded by silence, it almost felt like a scene out of "The Year of Living Dangerously" ... but maybe that was just me! Would happily stay a night here again.

The resort certainly has seen better days and the entire building could use some new paint and repairs. Also the garden could be kept much better. A lot of garbage is just dumped down the riverside. Breakfast choices are very limited and the coffee is atrocious. On the other hand, the location directly at the river is quite nice (but the grounds also border on the other side on the big road to Vientiane), lunch and dinner are also ok and the small pool is also a bonus. The staff is very friendly. And the best part was that they allowed our dog to come with us and sleep in our room. A rare thing for Lao hotels.

Staff very helpful but language was a problem, its clean but rooms are dated, we visited to meet up with my nephew who runs the Lao zoo which he and his partner are turning into a animal rescue center, most if not all the animals will be returned to the wild,if you are in the area its a must place to visit and witness all the incredible work they do
