The Frangipani Langkawi Resort and Spa

Great position by the beach. A bit rustic compared with other hotels, but we enjoyed this "left of centre" experience. Staff were excellent and we had a great experience.

My family (4 adults and 2 children) recently stayed at the Frangipani Resort Langkawi for 5 nights (July 2 to July 7). We booked a Deluxe Family Room (connecting rooms in a villa-style setup) at a very good price. While there are some great aspects to this resort, there are several areas that need urgent attention. ​The Good: The resort is incredibly lush and green, with greenery extending right up to the sandy beach, which is beautiful. The air conditioning and room fans worked perfectly throughout our stay. The breakfast is genuinely good with a nice spread, and the lobby area is decent. ​The Areas for Improvement: 1. Terrible Soundproofing: This was a major issue. We could clearly hear the guests in the room behind us through our bathroom. With kids in our family, it made us very conscious of our own privacy and noise, as sound travels directly from room to room. 2. Lizards/Geckos: Every evening, there would be 2 to 5 lizards on the ceiling outside our room door. My family has a phobia, and it made entering and exiting the room quite scary. Thankfully, none got inside, but pest control around the rooms is needed. 3. Outdated Furniture: The room furniture is very old and worn out. Given the prices they charge, they desperately need to upgrade their furnishings. 4. Housekeeping Flaws: Housekeeping skipped providing fresh towels for a day or two. We had to repeatedly ask for them, which is frustrating when you are on a relaxing family holiday. 5. Eco-Water Policy: They provide drinking water in a refillable glass jug instead of sealed mineral water bottles (which cost extra). While I understand the eco-tourism concept, it makes children and guests hesitant about the hygiene and source of the water. 6. Breakfast Area Fans: While the food is good, there are flies and insects around. However, only 1 or 2 tables have stand fans facing them. What about the rest of the guests sitting at other tables? They need to install more fans. 7. Distance to Saltwater Pool & Construction: The saltwater pool is a good 1.5 to 2-minute walk away, which feels far, so we just stuck to the closer chlorine pool. Also, there is ongoing construction near the entrance. While covered, it kills the initial first impression of the resort. ​Overall: It is a beautiful, green property with good food, but the old furniture, poor soundproofing, and housekeeping inconsistencies hold it back from being a true 5-star experience.

SCAM! This resort employs some scammers and is not fixing the problems. I thought I´m smart and book directly through the company webpage. Then I got a reply from some of their employees who have set up a side business, selling me a holiday package, which I paid, but the money was a bank account in Malaysia which doesn´t belong to the resort owners. Once the planned holiday got closer... this became clear, as the resort had no idea about my booking. After some discussion the hotel has confirmed to me in written, that they are facing that problem of fraud among their staff. I received then a 50% discount on an additional payment. And when I searched about this issue, I had to figure out, that it happened the same to other guests. As a former expat in this region I had been several times a guest of Frangipani... and I have to say, it is run down... the location is great, but the rooms are old and the gardening is done poorely. We have never used the beach, as there are much nicer beaches around the island. Finally... during the stay in the resort, one of our wallets got stolen from the room service out of the room. The management has informed me that they will repay me the hotel fees... however, this is now a for and back process since more than 2 months, and I get asked for strange things like my credit card expiry date and CVV (which I didn´t gave of coures) and I´m honestly not sure, if I´m talking again to the same scammers as at the beginning of this Odyssey. I recommend you to look for another newer resort.
