Serai Inn Hotel

This place used to by a fun very engaged couple and the neighborhood was really quiet. They kept the place immaculate and I used to always stay there when on a visa run from Bali. Let 3 years pass. Now there are people sleeping all over the street and the entire area is rundown and sleazy. The property itself has gone to seed and is basically a flophouse. To give it it's due it is very cheap and not buggy or horribly filthy. So maybe if cheap is your prime need it will work for you.

Stayed as a Leader on a World Challenge expedition. Though the approach looks a little suspect, this is a secure, clean, well kept and inviting hostel. The owners were really friendly, helpful and genuinely happy to have us there. The rooms have air con, there is hot water and decent showers. There is also a great communal room on the top floor with outside space as well. The location is great as well. Brilliant for a budget backpacker.

This hotel probably is the worst I have ever been to. And I don't say this often. First the good news: the two persons I saw working here both were sympathetic. And the location of the hotel is good. Several restaurants around. Then the bad news: the staff never seemed to be at the reception, no duvet or blanket, no toilet paper, no free towel (it cost 2 ringgit to rent), road construction in the nighttime, super simple breakfast, bedbugs (room 10), no toiletries, the hotel was behind an iron grid that you needed a special key for. Just weird.
