GEORGE TOWN is a busy busy TOWN and has a certain buzz about it when you stay at the Campbell Hotel.
Lots and lots of history as soon as you get booked into one of the twelve suites. It's like going back in History with old wooden floor boards and where you are expected to take your shoes off due to an old , old tradition.
It is a 4 star establishment with class. Excellent restaurant downstairs with an Italian menu and wine to have .
The staff here have exceptional standards and will go the extra mile to help in many ways.
All speak good English.
Without doubt next time on Penang island I will be staying at this hotel.
Thanks to all the staff and a special thanks for the Guavas for Peter !!!!

Perfect from start to finish, beautiful room, hotel full of history. The à la carte breakfast is one of the best I have had in a hotel. Extremely kind and welcoming staff, amazing

My wife and I stayed at the Campbell House hotel for four nights during a Far East tour which took in also Singapore and Langkawi.
The hotel is very conveniently located in central Georgetown and all of the attractions of the town are mainly within walking distance. For our visit to Penang Hill we had to get a short and very inexpensive local bus journey from the Bus Station which was a short walk from the hotel.
Check in was fine and we were given lots of information about places to visit, eating out etc.
Our room was very comfortable and not noisy other than one morning when we were woken up by the drums from a Dragon Dance in a cafe across the road and from firecrackers one evening - we visited during Chinese New Year so these were more of a bonus than a problem.
An à la carte breakfast was served in the Italian restaurant on the ground floor which was OK but there was not a great deal of choice and inexplicably lacked any fruit juices, not sure why. The Indian/Bangladeshi serving staff did seem a bit surly at times, the occasional smile would have been nice.
However these are minor criticisms in what was a most enjoyable stay.
