Redang Pelangi Resort

My review is addressed solely and exclusively to the BISTRO. The place looks like a 90s Hawaiian pub, fantastic. It is also a decent-level sandwich shop/pizzeria/wrap place; if you happen to be there on the wrong night, you might struggle to talk to the person sitting across from you because of the live music, where the Jalisse of Redang, between some high notes and some missed notes, will try to cheer up the audience. Tommy, the owner, is a unique character: long colored hair and dangling earrings. Have him personally prepare his super strong gin and tonics for only 5.50 euros and you will go to bed happier than ever. A mandatory stop for every evening in Redang.

Unfortunately, our expectations were largely disappointed. We chose Redang Pelangi Resort because of its many positive reviews, but after staying here we honestly struggled to understand some of them. The room is relatively new and acceptable, but the sewage smell from the bathroom is extremely unpleasant. We tried blocking the shower and sink drains, but the smell remained. The room is also not cleaned regularly and towels are only changed if you specifically ask reception. The air conditioning is positioned directly above the bed, making it almost impossible to sleep comfortably: with it off it is unbearably hot, while with it on it becomes cold. The package included full board, and unfortunately the food was consistently very poor. Lunch and dinner were often of very low quality, while breakfast was just acceptable. The restaurant staff were always kind and helpful and, interestingly, sometimes seemed embarrassed themselves by the food they were serving. One evening, we noticed another table being served an impressive dinner — fried calamari, lots of crab and a beautiful fish — while we were eating the usual poor-quality meal. When we asked why, the staff were clearly uncomfortable. At reception we were eventually told that the guests were friends of the owner/manager receiving preferential treatment. This left us feeling like second-class guests. The receptionist later apologised and offered us dinner free of charge, which we appreciated, but the whole situation was disappointing and, in our opinion, not very transparent. Luckily there is the Pelangi Bistro just in front and there you can have nice burgers and drinks, although you have to pay for them. The beach is beautiful, but the facilities are very basic: a few hard wooden loungers, with no cushions or umbrellas. The boat excursions are also overcrowded, and we were asked to pay extra for the life jacket. We were also surprised by the difference between some of the online photos and reality: images on Google create expectations of a more complete resort, including a swimming pool and attractive shaded areas, which do not correspond to what we found. That said, Redang itself is spectacular. The sea and beach are beautiful, and there are fish swimming right in front of the resort. Despite the shortcomings of the hotel, we had a lovely holiday thanks to the incredible natural surroundings. We should also acknowledge that the price is relatively low, so expectations should be adjusted accordingly. Nevertheless, we believe there are some basic standards of cleanliness, transparency and food quality that should be met regardless of the price. The island is wonderful; the resort, unfortunately, did not live up to our expectations.

I booked the 3D/2N snorkeling package, and from the moment I arrived at Sultan Mahmud Airport in Terengganu until the end of the trip, everything was smooth, well-organised, and efficient - there was hardly any waiting around. The journey to the island was seamless, with about a 40-minute bus ride from the airport (on a spacious coach) followed by another 40-minute speedboat ride to the island. Despite its beauty, Redang Island didn’t feel overcrowded, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The weather was perfect for swimming, and honestly, my only regret is not booking a longer stay. Although Redang Pelangi Resort is rated as a 2-star property, my experience exceeded expectations. The rooms were equipped with air conditioning, comfortable beds, and hot showers - everything I needed for a relaxing stay. The snorkeling schedule was well-planned, and the staff and facilities were more than adequate. We saw plenty of marine life, making the trip even more memorable. All meals were delicious! On the last day - check out is 8am, 9am to depart the resort. The only thing I would change is instead of catching the 5.45pm flight back to KL, the lunch time one at around 12.15pm would have been better. Then Request to depart the hotel earlier. So you're not wasting a whole afternoon sitting at TGG airport. I would recommend this resort and would definitely return in the near future.
