Redang Island Resort is set in a stunning location with charming bungalow-style accommodation nestled amongst the tropical surroundings. It is easy to see that this was once a beautiful resort, and it still has all the ingredients to become one again. Unfortunately, it now feels neglected, poorly managed and lacking the level of hospitality guests deserve. The biggest disappointment was housekeeping. We intentionally declined housekeeping until the third day, expecting the room to receive a proper clean. Instead, the beds were made, towels replaced and the floor given a quick sweep. The shower stall was not cleaned, the bathroom sink remained dirty, surfaces were not sanitised, and toiletries, coffee supplies and even toilet paper were not replenished. It felt more like a linen change than actual housekeeping. Breakfast was equally disappointing. The buffet offered very limited variety and very little attention to quality. The beverage station consisted of only three dispensers—water, orange juice and milk—with only one of the two coffee machines working. The orange juice didn't even resemble real orange juice. Food choices were often limited to sliced fruit, a noodle soup station where the broth and ingredients did not appear to be refreshed regularly, and unusual combinations such as baked beans, mashed potatoes and noodles. Food trays were frequently allowed to become almost empty before being refilled, giving the impression that the buffet was being managed with minimal attention. The resort itself also shows obvious signs of neglect. There are termite-damaged timbers, gaps around doors, ageing facilities and litter around the grounds that often remained unattended. These may seem like small issues individually, but together they give the impression that the property is no longer being cared for to an acceptable standard. One example that perfectly illustrates this is the resort's private beach access. A staircase leads to a beautiful secluded beach with spectacular rock formations and crystal-clear water. It should be one of the highlights of the resort. Instead, sections of the handrail are broken, making the stairs feel unsafe, there is little or no warning signage, and the beach itself is littered with plastic bottles and rubbish left behind by previous visitors. While guests should certainly clean up after themselves, the resort should also take responsibility by providing rubbish bins, installing signs encouraging guests to keep the beach clean and scheduling regular clean-ups. It is such a beautiful place that deserves far better care. The swimming pool is another facility with great potential, but it too appears to be lacking proper maintenance. The timber decking is beginning to show its age, ants were noticeable around the pool area, and there was little evidence of proactive guest service. There were no poolside menus, no QR code or WhatsApp information for ordering food or drinks, and no staff regularly checking on guests. Instead, guests were expected to walk back to the restaurant, and staff appeared reluctant to provide poolside service when requested. Small touches like these would significantly improve the experience. The greatest frustration, however, was transportation. This resort is extremely secluded with only one restaurant on-site, so guests rely on the shuttle boat to Long Beach for additional restaurants, cafés, bars, dive shops and other activities. During check-in, this service is promoted as one of the resort's conveniences. However, the reality is that boats only operate at limited times and only if enough passengers register. If there aren't enough people, guests simply cannot go. For an isolated resort, this is incredibly poor hospitality. Guests should never feel trapped. The resort should either operate the scheduled departures regardless of passenger numbers, provide additional departure times or charge a small supplement when fewer people are travelling. Any of these solutions would demonstrate flexibility and genuine customer care. We also booked diving with an independent operator and were refused transport to the pier because we had not booked through one of the resort's preferred dive centres. That decision made us feel restricted rather than looked after. Perhaps the most concerning part of our stay was a conversation with members of the staff. We were told that management's primary focus is the luxury Taaras Resort while Redang Island Resort receives significantly less attention. Staff also expressed that guest concerns have been raised previously but they feel little has changed. Whether or not this reflects management's actual philosophy, it certainly reflected our overall experience. I want to make it clear that the staff themselves were generally polite and friendly. The real issue appears to be leadership, management priorities and operational standards. During our stay we frequently observed staff gathered in empty rooms or common areas using their phones while rubbish remained on the grounds and maintenance issues were left unattended. This is not about blaming individual employees—it points to a lack of supervision, training and leadership. The disappointing part is that many of these issues would not require major renovations or significant financial investment. Better housekeeping, stronger supervision, cleaner public areas, improved communication, proper signage, more flexible transportation, routine maintenance and a greater attention to detail would dramatically improve the guest experience. Hospitality should never depend on whether a guest stays at a three-star or five-star property. Every paying guest deserves clean accommodation, safe facilities, professional service and management that genuinely cares about the guest experience. Redang Island Resort has incredible potential and could once again become one of the island's most enjoyable places to stay. Sadly, our overall impression was that the answer to guests was too often "No" instead of "How can we help?" Until Taaras Resort demonstrates the same commitment to Redang Island Resort as it does to its flagship property, I cannot recommend staying here.

Thank you to Ariff sazwan, Wana at the reception. The resort facilities were old in Residue as a whole, but the staff was so friendly that they didn't feel uncomfortable. Write a review on the kindness of real staff. They solved everything like the Superman of Resident Island. Thank you very much.
