Well, the pleasing contradiction is that there are many reasons to award 4 Stars to Casa Yalam Kaan south of Acapulco where we spent this past weekend yet also some serious 3 Star ( maybe 2 Star issues considering the price!)
The first reason for 4 Stars - they welcomed our Golden Retriever Dixon & Standard Poodle Maisie with a great big Yelp. And Dixon & Maisie had free reign all weekend! Dog lovers abounded and it made me so happy!
Casa Yalam Kaan is “paradise”! It’s quiet, restful and southing for the soul. The large sun beds at the pool were heaven as the breeze off the pacific added a touch of cool!
The chef is excellent! The service at night non-existent literally! Saturday @ 9 pm! No one on property! And our wine was locked in their fridge!
The thatched roof cottage accommodates one king bed and trust me when I say “that’s all that the room holds”!
It’s tiny and for the price charged $3300 MX in off-season, the accommodation doesn’t quite live up to the price as charming as the thatched roof cottage is!
Lovely obliging management and employee group!
Dixon & Maisie have already asked when we will return!

Located 20 minutes south of the airport, this 7 room home/hotel is a little jewel waiting to be polished.
Great location right on the beach. This property has no neighbors and it is private. Rooms are distributed around a beautiful garden. Each room is an individual elevated hut covered with thatch roofs. They are extremely simple yet comfortable. Rooms have a ceiling fan and a wall mounted air conditioned unit, which kept the room cool at night. Beds are king size. Closet space is limited. The bathrooms are small and clean. Part of the charm of this place is that it is very basic. That means that rooms are basically designed for sleeping purposes because there is little to no extra space to do anything else. There was a 14 inch TV in the room, we never found out if it worked. Because who wants to watch TV in Acapulco? All public areas are great. A small pool is surrounded by a pool bar and lounge areas. A semi-open dinning palapa also has a bar and tables with chairs for breakfast/lunch/dinner.
The beach is fantastic. Wide, open and deserted!!! Almost exclusively for your enjoyment. It almost feels private.
However; the best part of staying at Casa Yalma Kaan is the absoluetly lovely service from all of the staff. The chef is wonderful and his cooking is devine. He will pamper you with making modifications to his specialties to your liking. The rest of the staff is wonderful, working super hard to make you feel as comfortable and happy as possible.
This place is perfect to host a small wedding and have your closest friends or family take over the whole place. It will feel like staying at someone's home but with greater privacy in your rooms since they are detached from each other. This place is of great value for your money.
The highlight of our visit was the marvelous massage we received at the small cabin near the beach. As someone who has experienced world class SPA treatments around the world, the massage was one of the best I have ever received. The energy, technique and selfless care that was put into the massage to create a healing and well being experience was extraordinary. Do not miss it.
Areas of opportunity:
1- Toiletries and room amenities are basic. However; if you need to feel a bit more special, bring your own toiletries like soap, shampoo, conditioning, blower etc.
2- Towels are clean. However, if you love plush, soft towels for both the pool and your bath, bring your own.
3- If you bring children or teens, be aware that there are no TVs in public areas and entertainment equipment is non existing. Bring your own toys and books.
With a little more detail, this place could be polished to offer an absolutely wonderful experience. But parhaps it is how basic it is, what makes it tick. Listening to the ocean waves break, the sound of the breeze and the night sky makes you realize that all bases are covered and that life should be simpler. As it is at Casa Yalma Kaan.

It was my first stay at Yalma Ka‘an, but unfortunatly the expectations were not satisfied. First of all something positive: The food quality is really good, but as already mentioned, high price level. Entrys around $180, Main dishes $250-600, be aware that 8pm all service is ending. The rooms are simple, small and nagged. Roomservice appears in the afternoon, so coordinate your rest with the chambermaid. Day-Pool-Guest disturb all day long with loud music with bring-Own Loudspeaker, party ambience will loot your deserved siesta. Massage very recomendable, but all other activities promoted (Temascal, Bike hire, etc) are not offered.
