My husband and I stayed in a suite here 2 years ago and were very pleased, so we reserved a suite again for a 3-night stay beginning Aug. 30, 2013. Despite having a confirmed reservation, they'd given our suite away when we got there and were completely booked up because of conferences going on at the nearby Expo Center, so we were out of luck. I had NOT deposited money in their bank account to guarantee the reservation because I was told on the phone they usually weren't that busy this time of year so it wasn't necessary. I even called back a week before our departure to see if they'd changed their minds about a deposit and was told everything was fine...just present your confirmation number upon arrival. They did offer to call other hotels in the vicinity to help us out, but after 30 minutes of "no vacancies," we left. Bottom line: INSIST on putting down a deposit and hope that solves the problem! The excuse for our situation was that people who'd booked for less time decided to stay longer and they didn't want to say no. What? A reservation made a month in advance doesn't count?? VERY disappointed...untl we went to the centro historico and booked into a hostel for half the price and enjoyed ourselves immensely.
