I don't think I've ever stayed in a worse hotel. On arrival, it seemed quite pretty with a lot of greenery, but that's where it ends. Oh and the location was good.
We arrived early and knew we couldn't check in right away and wanted to ask it they could hold our bags. After waiting quite a while for a desk person to show up, they agreed to hold our bags for us. We came back around 2:50 (check in is 3:00). Now I know when check in is 3:00, they don't have to let you in before then, but every other hotel I've ever stayed in, your room would be ready, and they'd let you in. Not here. There were other people waiting to check in as well, but they refused to let ANYBODY check in until 3:01 on the dot. Ridiculous.
We were then given our room key, yes a key, a very old looking actual key on a piece of string. Which opened a very sketchy lock. You could actually leave the room, and if you didn't push the button, the door wouldn't lock behind you. And that was the ONLY lock. No deadbolt or any other security locks. Along with the key we were given 2 towel cards for the pool. Which had to be turned in every day after use. And the remote for the TV (weird).
Room was bad. The sheets and towels (only 2 small towels in total - nothing else, no face cloth, no hand towel), were so grey & dirty looking I was disgusted. As far as soap/shampoo etc. There was one small bar of soap, wrapped, and then there were 2 tiny shampoos. No conditioner. However on looking at the bottles of shampoo, it was clear one of them had already been used. Gross!
The "bathroom" if you could call it that was very dirty. Thankfully the toilet looked new, but there was absolutely no way, in the two nights we had booked, would I have stepped foot in that shower. There was also 1 and only 1, roll of toilet paper.
Back to the sheets on the beds. That's actually all there was. A bottom sheet, a top sheet, and nothing else. No blanket, no duvet, no other covering at all.
When waiting to check in we went to explore the rooftop pool. This was one of the reasons we chose this hotel because the online pictures made it look quite nice. It was not. Didn't go in the pool, the water was very cloudy. (I have a pool at home, so I know this is not what pool water is supposed to look like.) The lounge chair covers were filthy and gross looking.
They also advertised a restaurant. We decided to try it for a nightcap. It was just ok. Wasn't awful, wasn't good. Just meh. Would not go again.
We spent as little time as possible in the actual hotel. We did run out of toilet paper, the morning of check out. Decided to use the public toilets in the lobby. Nope. There were 2. One had SH** on the toilet seat and floor, and the other one had urine all over the floor. Just waited until we went to a restaurant for breakfast.
Checking out was also weird. They have 2 windows. Nobody was in either one at first, so had to wait yet again. Finally somebody came to check us out, and we handed in our key, remote and towel cards, and then was told to wait. Yep, we had to wait until the somebody went up to our room and checked it. Like we would want to steal ANYTHING from this hotel. There was no toilet paper. Wouldn't want the grubby towels or sheets, and the TV didn't actually work.
I very rarely write bad reviews, as I can generally let a lot of things roll off my back, but this was such an horrendous experience, I wouldn't want anybody else to endure it. I could even forgive some of the flaws if the hotel was cheap, but I'm pretty sure we paid well over $130 a night. Some people might just say I'm being a "first world princess", but trust me, I'm not. I've stayed in many lovely hotels in Mexico and was very happy. In hind sight maybe we should be researched more. But I'm hoping this will save somebody else from making the same mistake as we did.
