Parador del Dominico

I stayed for three days with a tour group. My room was clean and the bed comfortable, but my room and the hotel in general, felt old and battered. In the shower, like other travellers, I had to run the water for about 5 minutes to eventually obtain some lukewarm water. Breakfast was served quickly, but was consistently cold-and we started going to the cafe across the street for good coffee. One morning the tiny fruit plate had over ripe fruit. Rooms overlook a courtyard. If you get one of these, you'll have poor internet connection. Staff ranged from polite and pleasant to borderline surly. Location is good-right in central Oaxaca, a 10-15 minute walk to the main square and cathedral/markets. They provide free water from coolers located on each floor.

Almost all was fine except that the day of my arrival they had changed my room payment reservation and gave me another room, never contact me (they had my phone number, my email) nothing. When asked why they had done it that way, reply that they needed the room, that was all by the people in the front desk no management explanation or apology. Have to say that the night the seismic alarm sounded the woman in charge of the night shift had an excellent performance during the emergency.

Attractive building and good location. But the bed and mattress were rock hard, the room was spartan, the building courtyard amplifies noise into the rooms, and there’s no coffee available except at the adjacent restaurant. We did a side trip to Puerto Escondido, and chose a different hotel on our return.
