Occidental Grand Cozumel

I was in Cozumel for work and had the opportunity to stay at Occidental Cozumel and bring my wife The Pros (outweighed the Cons) Victor at the Pool Bar is amazing, remembers your name and what you drink excellent Service Bell Captains are awesome, I had to get a taxi every morning to go to the port, they were always in great spirits and saw me coming to call for a taxi Restaurant and Room Staff are amazing, happy, timely, helpful, great experience Pools - great, Beach - good Grounds were incredible and the occasional interaction with the wildlife was an added bonus, Coatis and iguanas lol. CONS Check in was to start at 3pm, by the time we arrived was 4pm and the room was not ready, had to walk the length of the resort to get to the buffet that was closing in 10 minutes until the room was ready. Unable to book more than 2 nights in advance for Ala Carte restaurants, or there was a fee, only ended up being able to book was told no reservations available when attempted to book additional nights, only ended up being able to book 3 of 6 nights the rest at the buffet. Buffet - food taste, bar and service were excellent, small selection and for 3 nights got kinda boring

This is the truth. One local man told me on the resort that the goal now is to separate the tourists from their money and how true it is. Workers and tourists are suffering in hot dining spaces without air conditioning it is so hot in the buffet you can get sick. One poor lady an older server told me quietly that management won’t fix the air conditioner. The food is just the cheapest they can possibly purchase I thought Cuba had bad food but this resort topped it we are still having stomach issues. Rooms are clean beds are comfortable. Adult pool dirty. Main pool somewhat cleaner beach is nice no seaweed. Customer service from resort workers is great but the main desk is horrible. We do not recommend this resort and would never return in fact Mexico which was our favourite by far is no longer a choice it seems like it’s all about ripping tourists off.

Exteriors and rooms, great. As for the rest: the pool is not clean, the staff is not always professional, there are many schedules to respect (which the hotel does not respect itself, for example, closing the restaurant earlier), bars with limited service; dirty pools. It was acceptable overall, but we will not return.
