Hotel Posada Toledo

The Hotel Posada Toledo has been my hotel of choice since 1987. Each year I have visited Merida the hotel has been the most charming of places to stay. This year will be my last. I have watched a slow decline in the hotel. Unlike past years there was no water in the rooms, toilet not repaired, restaurant opening later at 7:30, breakfast only and very sparse servings, no pepper or salt on the tables and generally not a good place to eat. WIFI working in spurts, toilet seats cheap plastic and uncomfortable, bathroom soap is small discs of soap and not renewed each day, bath mats missing some mornings, and sinks loose from walls. I am deeply disappointed that the owners are cutting expenses at the risk of losing business. We were the only guest there for the nine day stay.

I stayed in this hotel with a friend for 4 days. Hotel and all rooms are preserved in the old Hispanic style. Inner yard has a small garden, old-fashioned couches are arranged in comfortable seating area. Hotel has a cafe that serves economical breakfast packages, but they are not open in the evening, just throughout the day. Hotel location is in the center on Merida and all the main attractions are within walking distance. Hotel has free wi-fi, satellite TV and each room has A/C unit. Staff didn't speak much English. For me it wasn't an issue as I speak Spanish.

I think we got the last two rooms. I can't complain about the price nor location. We spent our last night in Merida on a Saturday. The town lights up late so we spent very little time in the room. This hotel is tired, but I can see it had some charm in its day. The staff was accommodating and arranged a large cab for us for Sunday morning 6 am. It is just a couple blocks from the square. We walked to Trattos and had an amazing Italian dinner! For $40 American, I can't really complain.
