Riad Alkantara

The Riad is beautiful with wonderful gardens and a pool. However it could be so much more. It was eerie to be the only guests in such a huge compound. It’s substantially overpriced, the breakfast was mediocre, the WiFi didn’t work, our arrival seemed unexpected and our transfer from the station wasn’t organised. There’s no hammam or restaurant. At breakfast on the last day we were told there was a problem with the milk. I suspect they had just run out. Other than 1 small bottle on arrival we weren’t provided with any water. The gardener and the night manager (Newman) were great and very helpful, however.

Honestly, we checked out of another Riad that was mediocre and gambled on a senior suite here based on the photos on Booking website. Oh wow. The minute we walked into their little oasis of calmness, the beauty and sounds and smells enchanted us and kept us spellbound for our entire time there. The suite was like a fairy tale Moroccan Riad, Gardens fragrant with fruit trees and blossoms, poolside relaxing and beautiful ambience. Every member of the small dedicated team were exceptional hosts, taking a genuine attitude to their duty of care that made our stay even more special. Food and drinks served where and when we asked, with a smile. For Moroccan standards the breakfast was superb. Absolute peace and quite, broken only by occasional cockerels crowing around the neighbourhood and the cacophonous call to prayers reminding us that we had not yet reached paradise. There’s a tortoise that habitually strolls around the poolside as though he is the main resident - so funny. No exaggeration - from our perspective this is a true experience of Morocco at its best. After Riad Alkantara we moved to Hotel Sahrai for a couple of nights - honestly, not intending to put down the Sahrai at all, but we were a little sad to leave Alkantara behind. Thank you to all.

Beautiful stay in this amazing Riad. Very spacious, clean and well organised place. Traditionally decorated rooms with stunning views from window. Very relaxing pool area with spectacular garden, that is oasis in a busy old town. Great and very professional staff. Was absolutely great experience.
