Riad Dar Assalama

Small riad very well located in the medina, two minutes walk from Bab Marrakech, at quite affordable price. Three bedrooms on the 1st floor, three on the 2nd, and a terrace with city and ocean views, like most riad and hotel terraces in the medina of Essaouira. The breakfast is good. The staff is good advice for restaurants. A few downsides though: the riad is not very spacious (no privacy), and the comfort and cleanliness are quite sketchy. Disappointment on arrival upon discovering the room, quite far from the description made on the internet: I had booked a "deluxe junior suite" which had nothing of a suite (in the European sense, that is to say more spacious and more comfortable than a room), no terrace or patio as described on the internet (these are actually those of the riad, accessible to all), and "private entrance" means that the room is at the end of the hallway, so that no one passes in front of your windows. The riad is located in a district of the medina where sewage odors come up through the pipes (this is the explanation we were given for the smell difficult to bear in the bathroom of the room). We bought a rotten jar and placed glasses on the washbasin and shower bungs to limit odors, and on the second day the person doing the maintenance installed a perfume burner with a candle. I found that the maintenance left something to be desired: the sink was clogged (but we were told it was normal!), the flush button broke, and the towels stained. When I confirmed my reservation, I had received an email indicating that it was possible to organize a pool day on request, but when I asked on the spot, the young woman at the reception told me that she did not make this kind of reservation, and we had to fend for ourselves (on off-package calls with my phone). In the end: rather mixed results. I recommend booking the rooms called "suites" as they offer a little privacy, provide earplugs if you have light sleep, an air freshener for the bathroom, and do not rely on the staff to organize your outings and visits.

Very nice little Riad, hospital parking next to the Riad at 50dh for the full day and night, small carousel which brings you the suitcases for 30/40dh, nice breakfast, good bedding, the sea view is only on the terrace ! The boss is nice! I recommend it, not too much noise, it’s calm and quiet!

This is a lovely, quiet Riad. It's in a great location, close to the ocean and the souk. There are also lots of nice cafes, restaurants, and bars all within walking distance. I would definitely recommend it, and I will be returning, inshallah. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
