Riad Hermes Marrakech

Let me start with what’s great about this riad. The top terrace and pool are just beautiful. Lots of space to sit in sun or shade in comfort. The pool was perfect. Riad spotlessly clean, and staff welcoming. Not so good: breakfast was tired dry bread, however there was a nice home made yogurt and tiny fruit salad. No black tea available. On returning back in the evening after dinner, at approximately 10:20 pm we were asked to pay, out of the blue, for our accommodation. That was fine but surprising at that time of night. Why not do this when we first arrived, in the afternoon? What was worse was that we were told it had to be cash as the card machine wasn’t working. Conversations ensued including the staff member talking to a “ manager” on the phone. Eventually the machine that we were told wasn’t working, miraculously was made to work (!!!) and we paid by card. Poor: Despite several requests by email for information on transfers etc. over the days prior to arrival we received not a single response . Not one. Not even an acknowledgment of our messages. Our “ superior” room was painted completely in black, including the ceiling. It was like sleeping in a coffin, as it was completely oppressive. Even with all the available lights switched on it was just so dingy, despite the room being clean. So, there were some nice positives here but the negatives sadly outweighed them
