Utse Hotel

An historic hotel run by a Tibetan family which has had some famous mountaineering visitors. Staff couldn't have been friendlier and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable organising early breakfasts and facilitating all our requests. The rooms have character, there is reliable hot water and a restaurant serving very nice food. The hotel is in the middle of all the action so there is some street noise but, really, very little.

A great place to stay in the heart of Thamel. The hotel is full of history and the owner is a delightful person to speak to to hear her story and the hoistory of this iconic place. The staff were very accomodating and very helpful in making our stay ( a group of 14) vey comfortable. The staff were able to point us in the right direction for sights, T-Shirt printing and restaurants although the food was excellent here also. This is a must for any traveller in Kathmandu who appreciates the real family touch. Thank you for your hospitality. Hope to return soon

I have stayed at the Utse many times over the last 40 years or so and cannot recommend it highly enough. The rooms are very clean, the food is excellent and Deki, Ugen, Deepak and all the staff are so kind and helpful - nothing is ever too much trouble. It may not have all the facilities of a higher grade hotel, but who needs fancy shampoo and a trouser press before going trekking or exploring the Kathmandu Valley. It is my home from home when in Kathmandu and I love relaxing on the roof top terrace!!
