Miscellaneous defects, which had been broken for some time, overdue maintenance rooms desperately needed upgrading water in sink does not run away but bubbles up first with all kinds of mess operation shower tap broken, bad beds

The hotel's convenient location just off the A19 explains its popularity as a stop-over for business people. For an older couple such as myself and my wife on holiday by car the location is also ideal for gaining access to the city centre, barely two miles away on an easy route to drive. Although in a not particularly striking residential area we discovered just across the main road a most beautiful lake with good walking paths around it. The hotel is fairly basic in its amenities but our room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant offers a smallish but varied menu, with all meals being cooked to order. Whilst this may mean a bit of a delay in one's meal arriving, when it does it is beautifully fresh and hot. Our two dinners were both excellent. If you want alcohol with your meal, check that the hotel manager will be on duty before you decide to eat in. No manager on duty means that the other staff are not permitted by law to serve alcohol (we got caught out by this on our second evening!) Overall, my wife and I thought the hotel offered very good value for money and its chief attraction was, as we discovered, the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff who were without exception delightful people who made us feel extremely welcome.

For us a big disappointment. Never experienced it like this. What a chilly and old hotel. Past glory!! Waste of money!. Small, musty room. Shower in a bath with a shower curtain. No longer able to use breakfast. Pentecost is not a holiday here and is seen as regular Monday.
