Bastion Amstel Amsterdam

Our stay at Bastion Hotel Amsterdam was frankly downright disgusting. The room was extremely dirty on arrival. Dirty stains everywhere: on the sheets, the towels, the mattresses and even the floor. It seemed like there was no brushing at all between guests. As if that wasn't bad enough, there was literally half a fake nail on the bed when we entered. That says everything about the hygiene of this room. The floor was really degoutantly dirty and sticky — you hardly wanted to walk on it barefoot. In addition, the sheets do not stay around the mattress at all. While sleeping, they constantly slide loose, landing you directly on the dirty mattress. Really a filthy and unhygienic experience. For the price you pay you expect at least a clean room, but this was absolutely below standard. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone as long as the hygiene is not seriously addressed.

No air con when it was 30 degrees outside. If the heat doesn’t keep you awake the busy road and noisy fridge will. When I complained about the broken air con the reception decided it was a good idea to call me at 640am to offer free breakfast even though it is served till 10am. Would never stay again and not recommend.

Not great. Very dark - the room could use better lighting - and warm (air con didn’t seem to work). Shower was a joke - drain clogged, water everywhere as the box doors didn’t seal to the floor, and there was no shelf for shampoo or soap. Really stupid design! Sink is tiny so hard to wash face. I didn’t have breakfast but they tried to charge me for it insisting I had. Overall not a great impression. Super pricey for the rubbish that it was.
