Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre

We had a Viking post cruise trip in Amsterdam. The hotel is in an excellent location. The staff and facility were excellent.

I had a two days stay at Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre. It was a work stay and i loved how large it is yet with timely services with a swiss feeling.

This hotel was a bit of a mixed bag. First, the staff was truly excellent. They were very helpful and especially kind to our young child. She left our two-night stay with two new stuffies and a book! Additionally, breakfast and the executive lounge were both quite nice. Unfortunately, the rooms were not what I would consider to be up to par for a hotel of this caliber. While the rooms were very quiet and had great views, the furniture was dated and pretty beat up. The room seemed clean overall, but we also saw a ton of dust fly up into the air whenever you moved anything. I also wanted to note that this hotel does not have individually controlled air conditioning. It has what they call climate control, and this allows you to adjust the room temp +/- 3 deg. We were in Amsterdam during a severe heat wave and the climate control couldn't quite keep up. We were fairly comfortable but would have appreciated if the rooms were a few degrees cooler. I don't think this will be a major issue 99% of the time in Amsterdam, but worth considering if you like a cold room and will be there during a heat wave. Finally, our main issue with the hotel was the beds. These were the HARDEST beds I have ever slept on. It was like sleeping on a board. I'm not quite sure how one would even find a mattress that is this hard. No one got great sleep and several members of our party were pretty uncomfortable the next day. We would absolutely consider staying at another Movenpick, but only if we could confirm the beds were more comfortable.
