For location, you really can't beat this hotel. Within a few minutes on foot, you're pretty much anywhere you want to be in Amsterdam. Plus, trams and the subways are at the doorstep. The hotel is in a very lively area of Amsterdam with lots of bars, restaurants and shops surrounding it, yet it's very quiet in the room - and we faced the main street!
I could only rate the hotel as a "very good" because there are a few issues. While the rooms are very large (at least ours was - room 111), the space is very underutilized. Only one smallish closet, no drawers or shelves for clothes. There was so much space to put additional storage in the huge room but not even the night stands had drawers. And the bathroom, while also huge, had a blow dryer on the far left that barely reached to the mirror so you had to blow dry your hair in front of a wall. Silly things like this really bother me because it seems as though no one checked the room for functionality. It would be an easy fix to move the blow dryer next to the mirror, for example. And then there's the beds...rock hard. I mean slab of concrete hard. I read this in other reviews and thought...well, everyone has a preference, I'm sure they are not that bad. They are. And lastly, the breakfast looks impressive but there's really not all that much there and it never changes. Very basic...but good.
On the plus side, the coffee is amazing! The buffet food, while a bit boring, was of very good quality. And the staff was incredible. Everyone was so nice and helpful but a special shout out to Beatrice who went over and above more than once.
Would I stay there again? No...but only because I found the beds so uncomfortable. If you like a very firm bed, then this hotel is a great choice.
