Nova Hotel

We spent 4 nights in the Nova during late June. The room was a reasonable size, clean and in good decorative order but had no air conditioning during the hottest day of the year in Amsterdam. A small table fan was provided but it didn't really help. Luckily we were at the rear of the building so could open our windows away from the noise of traffic and trams at the front. We found it odd that there were no drawers whatsoever in the the room to put socks and underwear, just some shelves, one of which housed the safe and another the hairdryer and hotel info. Equally no shelves in the bathroom upon which to put personal toiletries. We did find the area around the hotel to be scruffy with rubbish strewn everywhere and while the hotel management cannot be held responsible for that, it did make us question the level of City Tax which is charged, partly for keeping the streets clean. We were aware that there would be a local tax to pay upon arrival but thought that it would be a couple of euros per person per night. We were shocked to be charged Euro 98.76 (£90.23) for a 4 night stay. Despite the fantastic location, we wouldn't stay there again.

I stayed with my family between May and June 2026, and everything was pleasant: cleanliness, courtesy, breakfast, and requests. Today, unfortunately, when paying the balance for the unbooked breakfasts (€16 per person), the brunette Caucasian girl [refused to tell me her name, saying "I'm not obliged to tell you my name"] on the 10-19 shift on June 2, 2026, responded so poorly... in English... I had only asked why I was paying €17 per person per day for breakfasts instead of €16, and she said: "read better on booking"... and when I insisted because I had been confirmed €16 upon arrival, she said, "I don't care about you and this conversation!" I was surprised and told her why she was responding in such an inappropriate manner for a receptionist, and she still said, "I don't care," "I don't care about you," "pay and stop." And in the end, I paid... and while going to the elevator, the colleague loudly said that she hadn't sent me to do... it... always in English... for pity's sake! Unfortunately, it seems like a scene from a movie... but tomorrow we are leaving, and it leaves an unpleasant feeling. What a shame!!..!!

Just enjoyed a three night stay in this great hotel. Ideal location for seeing all the sights. Close to everything you need. Clean and very pleasant room, enjoyed our breakfast and so nice that you can get free tea/coffee/ water whenever you like.
