This is a rather unique hotel - one of the few buildings not destroyed in 1940 by the German bombardment of Rotterdam, and still showing many Art Deco qualities from the late 1920s-early 1930s, so a delight to the eyes, especially if you can get up to the 7th floor where there's a party room with an outdoor balcony providing a great view of the surrounding district. I stayed for 3 nights and found the staff very helpful and pleasant; the room was clean and well-tended (only complaint: no AC, so it was a bit on the warm side). Another interesting fact: this was the hotel where a Ukrainian leader, Colonel Yevhen Konovalets, met on 23 May 1938 with a supposed patriot (who turned out to be an NKVD assassin) and accepted a package that caused his death a few minutes later, just outside on the street (it would be great if the hotel had a plaque on site about this moment in history). So a great hotel for a history buff and relatively inexpensive.
