Although I booked 6 months in advance, I was given a room on the 11th floor that had so much dust on coffeecups, teaspoons, sachets, shelves etc, it looked like the room had not been used for a while. In addition the fridge was filthy, the aircon didn't work. The toilet was shockingly dirty on the inside. Designed by men for men, it did not have enough light to apply make-up. Although an internet search showed rooms available, reception told me I could not have another room as they were fully booked. Also I prepaid snd fat chance of a refund. Coffee machine is mentioned, but not to be found, just an old kettle, moccona sachets and small milk cups. Went out from 11 am to 3 pm to find room not done. Staff said the do rooms that are to be newly occupied first will get to mijn later, so I cannot have my usual afternoon nap. Thankfully I'm leaving tomorrow, but I'll make sure to never come back to this hotel.

If I want to share my thoughts on Hotel Novotel, the positive aspect is its location between the city center and the Scheveningen beach, being only a few tram stops away from both. The hotel itself is sleek and modern, and with several self check-in and self check-out machines set up in the lobby, the process is very fast. I will list the negatives, and you can decide if these bother you or if you are okay with booking it. It really depends on what you are looking for. Negatives: * In-room Safe: The safety box in our room didn't work—the batteries were probably dead. For a short stay of two or three days, you simply don't have the patience to call and wait for maintenance to come check the issue. * Air Conditioning: The AC control unit is very old, making it impossible to see the actual room temperature; you can only adjust it up or down. * Amenities: Amenities are extremely sparse—just a wall-mounted hand soap dispenser, plus a shower gel and shampoo also mounted on the wall. There was no conditioner or shower cap. When we asked for slippers and a toothbrush, we were told we had to pay for them, which came to around 3.5 euros. It was the first time in my life I saw a hotel charge for slippers, and the toothbrush was a wooden one that barely lasts a few days. * Housekeeping Policy: Regarding room cleaning issues—and I want to clarify that my critique is by no means directed at the housekeeping staff, who are neat and do their jobs well. My critique is aimed at the hotel's own policy at Novotel The Hague. The room only has a "Do Not Disturb" sign and a "Skip housekeeping for being green" sign. Since I didn't see a "Please clean my room" sign, I didn't hang anything up, assuming that normally if you leave no sign on the door, cleaning is done automatically. I have stayed at Novotel in other cities, and your room gets cleaned unless you put up the "Skip housekeeping" sign. When there is no "Please clean my room" sign, what are you supposed to do? On the second day, our trash can was full, towels needed changing, and the bathroom and toilet were unclean. I saw a housekeeping staff member and asked for room cleaning. They immediately noted down our room number, used their walkie-talkie to request the cleaning, and when I asked if I needed to inform reception too, they said no, the request had been sent. When we returned to the room in the afternoon, we found it uncleaned, with the bathroom in a very poor state, the trash bin full, and no toilet paper or towels. We called again, explaining that we needed to rest and couldn't leave the room, asking them to at least clean the toilet and bathroom because they were unusable. Reception said we should have told them, while the housekeeping staff blamed reception or another supervisor—everyone kept passing the buck. They aren't to blame personally; they are simply executing the hotel's policies. You cannot be "green" by keeping things dirty; you practically have to beg to get your room cleaned. * Minibar & Water: There was no complimentary water in the room. The minibar was empty, with nothing to use or purchase. * Breakfast Area: The layout of the breakfast tables created bottlenecks and crowding. * Overall Rating & Beds: In truth, this is not a four-star hotel; it provides the service of a three-star hotel housed in a sleek, modern building. In rooms with a sofa bed where they say you can request an extra bed or another twin bed, they literally just open up the sofa bed and put a mattress on it. To be fair, the mattress was comfortable, but the height of the sofa bed is lower than a twin bed, and the mattress width is narrower. * Parking: The parking garage next to the hotel is extremely expensive.
