We stayed in the Superior Suite and had a nice enough time, but were a little disappointed on the whole. I'm not usually one to nitpick, but there were so many unfortunate details which really added up and ultimately missed the mark on the promise of a luxurious 4-star hotel, which is what the marketing and reviews suggested we would get. I think we could have spent less on a better experience elsewhere. On the positive side, the room was spacious. It was quiet and the bed was really comfortable, so we slept well. The housekeeping team was really good at replacing pur towels and tidying up when we were out. There was a big spa bath in our room, which was exciting... but it was so dirty that we never wanted to use it. There were some nice robes waiting for us in the closet... but one was stained. The toilet bowl was really streaky and the sink looked like it hadn't had a proper scrub in a long time. There was a big TV, but it had broken pixels across one side. All the walls were covered in scuff marks and holes. The bedside lamps had the coldest, blueist bulbs I've ever seen, and some of the art in the (dark and narrow) hallway was hideous. At night the outdoor areas weren't really lit up, so you had to walk through the dark. All of these things are not a huge deal on their own, but when all lumped together it was a bit of a let down. To use a cliché, the place has really good bones, the staff we talked to were lovely, and I could really see it being a beautiful place to stay again if some TLC was put into these small things. If the owners of Wai Ora read this, please take it as a good faith suggestion to improve things, rather then us trying to tear you down!

We were upgraded to a superior suite for our 40th anniversary. While I’m very grateful this hotel is somewhat run down. We had a large spa tub in our room but it was filthy! The king bed in the separate bedroom was extremely comfortable. The kitchenette had a kettle some coffee, tea, hot chocolate packets but no toaster. They have an onsite restaurant that is open Tuesday to Sunday so I suppose they want you to eat there. We had a balcony overlooking the pool. We did not use the pool or the hot tub. They have a lift to the 2nd floor which we very much appreciated. It is located in the Holden Reserve area near a small beach. They have thousands of tiny bugs so they tell you to turn off the lights and close the blackout curtains so you won’t be bothered by the bugs! It’s about a 5-10 minute drive from the CBD. It was fine for the price we paid.

A great escape. Will definitely go again Friendly staff, couldnt do enough to help. Right on the lakefront, gorgeous pool, spa and amenities. Clean room, no complaints.
