A great option for visitors to Okain's Bay or Akaroa, this homestead is beautifully landscaped and has a rich and interesting history. A friendly and warm family home, with comfortable rooms and sumptuous beds, good home-style meals and interesting dinnertime conversation about the fascinating local history. Judy and Kerry are lovely hosts and helpful with suggestions on local attractions.

We were a group of 6 people stayed in Self catering cottage during autumn. The cottage was well equipped except a breakdown kitchen hood. However, because of the smelly and smoky food cook, it turned to a nice experience. We shut down all light (preventing insect to fly inside the cottage) and open all common room area's widows and doors (for air ventilation) together with a fireplace and nice music from the radio with glasses of wine. It's one of great experience in our NZ trip. There is only 1 bathroom and separated toilet, so we need to manage a little for our group but we were ok. One of our group had a problem with bed (too soft), so he managed to sleep on the floors but the others were fine. The farm is so big and has trekking route with nice scenic and sheep everywhere. Karen, our host, was very nice and provided good information to explore the area. She allowed us to feed animals including sheep, pig, and donkey. Very cute animals. It was awesome experience but too short for 1 night stay.

We first visited Kawatea in 2007 and we were delighted that our second visit lived up to our memory of this beautiful home. Judy and Kerry are lovely hosts. Accommodation was exceptionally comfortable and the breakfasts better than restaurant quality! Thank you.
