Amazing place, easy access, very quiet, great view from the lobby, dining area and room. Super nice and caring staff. We had a great stay, rooms were big, the lodge has everything you need, it was very relaxing and next to many trails to explore the area. Highly recommended!

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Wilderness Lodge with a hiking group. As its name suggests, the Lodge is in a wilderness area and situated on a sheep farm. The Lodge offers a variety of activities, including an introduction to sheep farming that was informative and enjoyable. The guestrooms are relatively plain but clean and comfortable. Two washing machines and dryers are made available to guests at no charge. The food at our breakfasts and dinners was good and the service was extremely friendly and attentive. There are many hiking opportunities in the area.

Not even close to 5 star hotel as described. We booked 2 nights at an exorbitant rate of about$ 300 per PERSON! And couldn't justify staying the second night despite forfeiting the cost. The sheep farm next door was the only highlight, lovely tour from the farmer there. Dinner was extremely underwhelming , my dessert pear ice cream was akin to mouthwash flavor. No barista coffee offered, only drip. The rooms were worse than a Holiday inn and in need of serious update. Uncmfortable beds, old carpet, no TV, wifi did NOT reach the room, only the common area). The bathroom itself was disgusting in need of serious update. The nail in the coffin was this- we was a gigantic spider in our room as might happen at a place like this. Tried to scare it outside but it hid behind the extremely old curtains (which has tracks not cleaned in what appeared to be YEARS). I woke up the next morning, however, with a large painful spider bite on the back of my leg and decided we had enough and wanted to leave. When I brought it to the reception's attention, she told me" the wilderness part of the wilderness Lodge got you!" Absurd and rude. And didn't offer any kind of concern and then charged us for the beers at dinner. No mention of a refund for the night we weren't staying despite how terrible of a time we had. Would NOT recommend to anyone unless you enjoy overpaying for a nasty hote. We had much better for 1/5 price at the Hilton DoubleTree in christchurch The resort responded to the above review and said they 'wished the had the opportunity to speak' when I had also spoken to reception.. if this company were truly customer friendly I believe they'd offer some kind of partial refund. Was I truly expected to stay another day after having woken up in a room with a spider bite? I also never received my final bill . My travel agents company will surely NOT be recommending this place. Do not be fooled, save your money and book elsewhere
