If not visiting this area to go Whale Watching there is very little else to do. One night would have been enough. More than adequate Self Catering accommodation

This laid-back motel is so relaxing and comfortable. I had a little self-catering apartment complete with balcony and outdoor chairs. The bed and bedding were spotlessly clean and snug with extra blanket that I always need. The bathroom was very clean, hot water was hot with first-class shower. Kitchen area and equipment all very clean. Across the road was the beach and I had magical views during the day and evenings. It was full moon time so I watched the moon rising over the sea in clear skys. A cold front had also dumped snow on the mountains, so whilst still chilly and crisp when the sun went down, the whole place was just magical. It's a good, brisk walk to the whaling station where you can join one of the whale watch tours or join the Christchurch to Picton (or vice versa) daily train. The reception is relaxed, friendly and efficient. You can leave your luggage there too if you are early or have a later departure time. There's a little seating area there also with very clean toilet rest room for guests. Very pleasant stroll to the town and eating places one way, great hiking choices the other ways and superb sea and mountain scenery all round. Thank you for a great stay.

We stayed for 2 nights from the 31st of March in a premium studio double. We were allocated room 69 on the 2nd floor. . There is plenty of parking, if you are on the 2nd floor you will need to carry your luggage up a flight of stairs. The room was large, there was a safe, iron and board. The fridge was turned off when we checked in, so it took a little while to cool down. You could hear some street noise through the windows but as we were up early it wasn’t too much of an issue. We found the shower head really small and the bed a little too soft. There was a TV with Sky channels but no smart Apps. The Dolphin encounter tour we did was next door, so that was really handy. It was a quick 2 min drive into the centre of town. Would recommend the lamb in Groper Garage – was one of the best meals we had in New Zealand (came out on grill plate).
