Scenic Bay Of Islands

Our last stay at the Scenic Paihia was several years ago, nothing has changed. Their attention to detail has not changed. When you open the wardrobe and find an umbrella there you realise their level of care. The grounds are perfect. The beach is a five minute walk away The rooms are spotless and everything works.

We stayed for two nights as a family of four (2 adults and 2 children) in room 211 and overall had a really enjoyable stay. It was excellent value for money and we'd definitely come back. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the pillows were some of the best I've slept on in a hotel, the bedding was lovely and fresh, and the shower was fantastic with plenty of hot water and great pressure. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, which made us feel right at home. There were just a couple of minor issues. When we arrived, the fridge had stopped working and was full of water, with it leaking onto the floor. We ended up using the hotel towels to mop it all up. There was also a bottle of milk sitting in the fridge, which did make me wonder how long it had been there given the fridge wasn't cold. I even mentioned to my husband that it seemed a bit strange there wasn't a minibar in the room, so it gave us a laugh when we were asked at checkout whether we'd used it! The only other thing worth mentioning is the noise. I'm a very light sleeper, so this may not bother most people, but we could hear what sounded like the neighbouring room's extractor fan running throughout the night. There were also two heat pump condenser units just outside our patio that kicked in every 20 minutes or so. The older-style wooden windows didn't seem to seal particularly well, so they didn't block much of the outside noise. Those things certainly didn't spoil our stay though. The comfort of the beds, the quality of the shower, the friendly staff and the overall value for money far outweighed the few minor issues. We'd happily stay here again and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for comfortable, affordable accommodation. *Please consider putting roller blinds on the front doors
