Shakespeare House Bed and Breakfast

This was a fantastic B&B. The owners were phenomenal, friendly and could not do enough for us. The room very very clean and the bed very comfortable Best B&B we have stayed in for a long time

If we hadn’t already paid in full we would have left as soon as we walked in. No welcome when we arrived. Room was clean but the bed was so well worn it wasn’t funny. Plus it was a queen not a king. Walls very thin and a view of a fence out the window. Breakfast such as it was closed at 8:30am. Staff in the kitchen were rude. This is more of a backpackers. Wish we had read the reviews before booking.

Subject: Very Disappointing Stay – Misleading Information and Poor Experience I am writing to express our deep disappointment regarding our recent stay at your property. We booked this accommodation several weeks ago for a group of ten people, including three children. At the time of booking, we clearly stated that we required five rooms located in the same area, and that we planned to have a BBQ night at the property. We were assured that all five rooms would be together in one section, and that no other guests would be sharing that space. Based on this assurance, we chose your property, even though more affordable options were available. We arrived around 5 PM after a long day at Milford Sound, fully paid for our stay, and were shocked to find that one of our rooms was located in a different area, and some of the rooms in the same area were given to other guests, despite your previous promise. This directly contradicted the arrangement we had confirmed with you. Additionally, we were told that we could use the BBQ area and that although the kitchen door would close around 8 PM, we could access it through another entrance. We stored our BBQ supplies and food in the kitchen and took a short rest before starting our BBQ around 8 PM. However, to our surprise, a very rude lady arrived and locked all the doors, telling us that we should have had our dinner earlier. This was highly inappropriate and unprofessional. Soon after, another staff member informed us that the kitchen could not be used after 8 PM, and BBQ activities were not allowed as it might disturb other guests. This was extremely disappointing, as we had clearly informed you in advance about our plans and specifically requested a private space to avoid this kind of issue. We had no choice but to remove all our food and cooking items from the kitchen and carry them back to our vehicles. We then used small portable gas burners and sat on the ground outside to have our dinner, which felt humiliating and completely unacceptable after paying NZD 1,300 for our stay. We were also told that breakfast was included, but when we arrived in the morning, we found only a very basic "Kiwi breakfast" (oats, bread, cornflakes, some fruit, and coffee). Furthermore, using the kitchen stove would incur an additional charge, which was never mentioned before. We felt like we were treated more like prisoners than guests, with strict restrictions on movement after 8 PM and very limited access to basic facilities. We booked your accommodation to relax and enjoy our trip, but instead, we had a stressful and disappointing experience that left a very negative impression on our group. We hope you will take this feedback seriously and ensure that clear, honest information is provided to future guests, and that guest comfort and promises made during booking are respected. We trusted your word, and unfortunately, we were let down.
