Voyager Apartments Taupo

The internet photos looked great but when we arrived in the room, the smell was awful. Either the place is musty from a leak (there was also a puddle of water on the upstairs bathroom to greet me), or someone had been smoking something. The crumbling and broken balcony next door suggests the water theory. Beds comfortable. Location convenient. Everything else tidy.

Disgusting and not worth $530 a night...do not pay over $250 max The minute we arrived we were treated with terrible service. The reception area stinks of old cigarette smoke, i was greeted by a tiny dog that barked and growled at me. The manager was completely rude and not welcoming at all, we arrived and someone was in our carpark so we parked next to it and she was over to us immediately to tell us off as if it was our fault. We walked into the apartment and it was old, worn and filthy. The sheets were dirty, the spare blankets stink and were filthy with brown stains, there was hair in the basin, ripped wall paper, all the cutlery and plates were filthy, outdoor table and chairs stained and rusty, stains on the indoor table and chairs, bench top filthy, the very tiny swimming pool had a dead bird that had not been removed the list goes on. The place was so dirty we had to go and ask for a vacuum to clean it ourselves as the apartments have no cleaning gear in there, she then told my husband off for parking in carpark number one when it was just so he could stop and talk to her after being to the supermarket. I approached the manager to express my concerns and was basically told it is a 4.5 star and that's what you get, she was not interested in helping me out at all. I told her we did not need the portacot that was left taking up space and could it be collected from our room to be told she can not carry it, there is no one there to help and if we want it out my husband should go and take it to her (in the torrential rain). We then went and asked if we could leave early due to not being happy, having had a very long trip from up north we do not wish to stay in a apartment that is not what it is advertised as and she was not willing to help. The neighbours next to us felt exactly the same way with the state of their apartment. The Washing machine and drier don’t even work properly. Our daily service consisted of someone changing our bath mat and rubbish bin, no vacuum, no new towels, no wiping anything down, no new soaps, no vacuum nothing. The place is full of old leaves and they get blown inside everytime you open the door surely part of a service is to vacuum them up and if not then each apartment should be fitted with its own vacuum so guests can do their own cleaning. There is no way this apartment should be priced at $530 a night, it is nowhere near worth it and even after the stay when we approached the owner and manager the replying was terrible, they didnt care at all and tried to say there was no evidence of any of our issues. DONT stay here...thats my advice

I have just seen a review by Justplanemad and everything they said I agree with except 1. There are two carports for each property, only one is numbered though 2. For what you pay the kitchen is fine, if you're cooking cordon posh, not the place 3. Having more than one place to sit in the lounge was appreciated. I've stayed in places that are bigger with only one couch, no other chair 4. The extractor fans are loud, so we used the other light and left the windows open 5. The upstairs TV is fuzzy but was a surprise and we did watch a movie on it. 6. Its an easy flat amble to town along the lakefront 7. There are many restaurants close by, the pub around the corner has a lovely garden bar,does excellent cocktails and ok pub food 8. We thought one bedroom two bathroom was a real bonus and the sunny bedroom, French doors and balcony, again lovely. We like space and at 70 m2 it's way bigger than a motel unit. It's not super flash and the downstairs space is tight for two couples if the 2nd bedroom was unlocked. However you would have a bathroom each and some privacy the way it's laid out. If you like to get out to do things and eat, then this is great value for money.
